• REGULAR OPENING TIMESThe opening and closing times of shops and businesses are generally the following:
SMALL SHOPS
They are usually open every day between 10:00am and 2:00pm and between 5:00pm and 8:00pm. On Saturdays, some shops only open in the morning. It is more and more common to find that businesses in the centre stay open at lunchtime, especially clothes chains and clothes franchises that stay open until 9:00pm.
SMALL SUPERMARKETS AND FOOD STORES
They also usually close at lunchtime, between approximately 2:00pm and 5:00pm and are also closed on Saturday afternoons, but the department stores and hypermarkets are open from 10:00am to 10:00pm, from Monday to Saturday.
On Sundays, stores are closed. Only certain stores in the historic centre aimed at tourists and visitors to Salamanca are open. As far as food stores are concerned, there are certain supermarkets that are open 24 hours a day and these are located in the Plaza de Gabriel y Galán, on the Gran Vía and in the Avenida de Italia. Furthermore, at the shopping centre located at the train station, there is a supermarket that opens on Sunday’s between 11:00am and 9:00pm. There are also retail stores that open every day of the week where you can find practically anything you need.
• RESTAURANTSIn Salamanca, as in the rest of Spain, there are three socially acceptable times for the three main meals of the day, although it is also quite common to have a small snack half way through the morning or afternoon. When eating out, all restaurants have their customary opening times:
BREAKFAST:
From 7:30am to 10:30am.
LUNCH:
From 1:30pm to 4:00pm.
DINNER:
From 9:00pm to 11:30pm approx.
In smaller restaurants, bars and cafés you can get a bite to eat at almost any time.
• BANKSBanks are open to the public from 8:30am to 2:00pm from Monday to Friday. From October to April, they are also open on Saturdays from 9:00am to 1:00pm.
Some banks also open on Thursday afternoons from 5:00pm to 7:30pm from October to April, but there are some that open every afternoon throughout the year.
• PUBLIC SERVICESThe majority of public services (Town Hall, Health Centres, Public Administration) open from 9:00am to 2:00pm, but it is becoming more and more common for certain public service entities to be open to the public in the afternoon (Junta de Castilla y León, Post Office…).
